about
Jersey City indie rock/alt-pop duo YO KINKY composed of Laura Wight and Tom Unish, share their second single, "Disillusioned," off their upcoming EP Erotic Creature, which finds the duo channeling their wall of sound approach into a more neo-psychedelic girl group 60’s ballad. With Tom Unish's signature dreamy and shimmery guitars arpeggiating throughout an airy, hypnotic groove of bass guitar and electronic rhythms, Laura Wight’s gentle piano adds a counter melody to further the themes that the song touches upon, which are conflict and resolution. As Wight’s vocals float above the surface, singing “If I would’ve known it would be like this, I wouldn’t have tried so hard to get ya”, “Disillusioned” alludes to disappointment felt when expectations aren’t met, or when people’s behaviors alter over time, effecting change on a relationship for the worse.
Yo Kinky enlisted veteran indie rock producer John Agnello (Alvvays, Horsegirl, The Kills) to co-produce and mix their upcoming EP, Erotic Creature. This new collection of songs sees the duo continuing to offer us hopeful, well-crafted indie pop; yet where the duo’s debut EP, Yo Kinky, showcased spastic guitars and sly, pitter-patter vocals, like “Disillusioned” demonstrates, Erotic Creature places a bit more attention on intricate guitar and vocal interplay, adding to their trademark landscape of urban decay.
